Dr. Latee Walton-McCleod

Biography

Dr. Latee Walton-McCleod was appointed Superintendent of the Essex Regional Educational Services Commission (ERESC), effective July 1, 2023 by the ERESC Board of Directors. She makes the statement, that it is both an honor and a pleasure to join the Essex Regional Educational Services Commission as its Superintendent. In the days ahead in an effort to build upon a legacy of educating students in an equitable manner, Dr. McCleod looks forward to working with the ERESC team and partnering with the communities it serves.
Dr. Latee Walton-McCleod is a highly experienced and accomplished individual who excels in both education and entrepreneurship. With a career spanning over 18 years, she has dedicated herself to the development and well-being of children and young adults from birth to age 21.
Her journey in education began as a special education teacher in the Jersey City Public School District. Building on her early success, she moved on to Irvington Public Schools, where she served as an Assistant Principal for a significant period of time. From there, she progressively took on higher positions, including Vice Principal and Principal, within the Union Township Board of Education from 2011 to 2020. From May 2020 to April 2023, Dr. Latee Walton-McCleod assumed the role of Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the Township of Irvington Public Schools. In May 2023, Dr. McCleod assumed the role of Assistant Superintendent at ERESC.

Dr. McCleod’s passion lies in working with children with special needs, and she has a proven record of accomplishments in developing innovative and effective programs tailored to meet their individual requirements. Her unwavering dedication to children of all ages and abilities is fueled by her innate nature to teach.  Her goal is to equip students with critical thinking skills and cultivate a mindset that will make them successful 21st-century learners, well-prepared for future challenges.

Throughout her career, Dr. McCleod has been recognized for her exceptional commitment to students.  The Irvington High School Senior Class of 2010 acknowledged her extraordinary dedication, and she was also honored with the Union County Rotary Excellence in Education Award in 2016 for her unwavering service to the Township of Union.

Dr. McCleod’s qualifications speak volumes about her expertise and academic achievements. She holds five State of New Jersey Education Certifications, and she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Public Administration with a specialization in Special Education/Education Administration from Kean University.  Recently, she successfully completed her Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from Capella University.

Driven by her firm belief that “Education is the Key to Success,” Dr. Latee Walton-McCleod continues to make a significant impact in the lives of her students, ensuring they have the necessary tools and knowledge to thrive in their future endeavors.
