NON-PUBLIC SCHOOL NURSING SERVICES
The Essex Regional Educational Services Commission has been providing nursing services for over 30 years to nonpublic schools located in Essex, Bergen, Morris and Passaic counties. ERESC registered nurses provide services to students in over 70 nonpublic schools in New Jersey.
Ms. Therese Garcia, RN, is the ERESC program supervisor of Chapter 226 services. Ms. Garcia provides important direction and communication regarding NJDOE and NJDOH updates to ERESC nurses that result in the efficient and effective operation of Chapter 226 services. State guidelines, as they are applicable to nonpublic schools, are followed and accessible via the New Jersey Department of Education website. Ms. Garcia oversees the nursing budget, schedules and nursing hours. The School Nursing Guide for Nonpublic Schools details policy and procedures necessary for compliance.
Ms. Garcia schedules nurses to provide services at each nonpublic school to:
• observe nursing performance in the delivery of health services for students
• review required documentation and data for immunization reports
• check on the completion of required trainings
• answer questions about directives and address concerns
